UOW Young Writers/Directors Project Six 15- minute plays will be presented on Sunday 20 June as part of the Young Writers/Directors Project -- a collaboration between students from the University of Wollongong's Faculty of Creative Arts and Year 11 and 12 students from the Drama Studio at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC). Get ready to experience animals, ghosts, gods and devils in ways you have never imagined before. Be prepared to laugh, think and be surprised! Using the theme of the Buddhist 'six realms of existence' as a starting point, the six plays explore the realms of: God realm -- 'Dead in Five' (Act 1) writer Adam Formosa directors Rebecca Downes /Ryan McGoldrick Asura (Demi-God) Realm -- 'Dead in Five' (Act 2) writer Harrison Ensgtrom, director Jackson Davis Human Realm -- 'Dead in Five' (Act 3) writer Jessica Canero, directors Rebecca Downes /Ryan McGoldrick Animal Realm- 'Nola's Ark' writer Andrew (Grins) Kingsford Smith, director Aidan Cairns Preta (Hungry Ghost) Realm -- 'The Princess, the Potion, The Lake and the iPhone' writer Elizabeth Julian Tivoli, directors Michelle Dawson/ Blair Dutney Naraka (Hell) Realm -- 'Naraka' writer Kate McDowell director Katie Lees These realms are part of the cycle of existence -- sometimes you're down on the bottom of the wheel in hell realm, while at others you're up with the gods. Theatre goers will be able to see in which realm they would prefer to be a part. The project has been an opportunity for writers and directors from the Faculty of Creative Arts to develop their skills in producing new works in a rehearsal setting and for actors from the Drama Studio to experience the workshop process. The writers on the project are Jessica Canero, Harrison Engstrom, Adam Formosa, Andrew (Grins) Kingsford-Smith, Kate McDowell and Elizabeth Julian-Tivoli. Directors are Jackson Davis, Aidan Cairns, Michelle Dawson, Blair Dutney, Rebecca Downes, Katie Lees and Ryan McGoldrick. One of the writers' mentors from the Faculty of Creative Arts, Dr Catherine Fargher, said the result will be a public performance of new short works written and directed by students from UOW and performed by students from the Drama Studio which promises to put a new twist on an age-old concept. The performance will be held at the IPAC at 2.30pm on Sunday, June 20, 2010
